Favarh – the Arc of the Farmington Valley and Regan Development collaborated on two innovative supportive housing complexes that give tenants with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) increased independence and autonomy in an integrated and safe environment.  Integrated means the apartment complex is for people with and without intellectual disabilities (25% with and 75% without.) The first of the complexes is named Bear Woods Apartments, located in Canton at 300-350 Commerce Drive and the second is Lavender Field Apartments in Bloomfield at 458 and 470 Cottage Grove Road. The innovative nature of these projects includes the incorporation of ADA+ features along with a cutting-edge smart-home management system to help tenants with IDD safely thrive in a fully integrated community setting. A prerequisite for all tenants in both complexes is that they meet state income limitations. The two complexes combined create affordable rentals for 38 people with IDD and 115 others.

SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROJECT IN FARMINGTON MOVES AHEAD

65 Apartments for people with and without disabilities

Farmington, CT – April 24, 2024 – Favarh is excited to announce its third integrated supportive housing project in Farmington, Connecticut, set to open in late 2024. With this project, Favarh - The Arc of the Farmington Valley continues its legacy of innovation, empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Situated at 80 South Road, Farmington, this new project will feature 65 apartments catering to people with and without disabilities. A quarter of the total apartments will be designated for people with IDD, consisting of 12 one-bedroom and 3 two-bedroom units, providing a variety of affordable housing choices. Favarh's commitment to fostering independence will be further reinforced with round-the-clock support from dedicated staff members.

In collaboration with Sager Development, the project aims to create a safe, inclusive, and fully integrated community setting. This partnership underscores Favarh's dedication to bringing more affordable, inclusive living opportunities to individuals with IDD, ensuring they have the support and resources necessary for a fulfilling life.

Favarh's first and second supportive housing complexes in Connecticut, Bear Woods Apartments of Canton, and the Lavender Field Apartments of Bloomfield are both designed to be inclusive, integrated apartment complexes for people with and without disabilities. These two complexes served as models for over a dozen other supportive housing complexes statewide.

Today, Favarh (pronounced "FAY-var") is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) and a local chapter of The Arc, a nationwide community-based organization for people with intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities. Acceptance Process for Favarh Supportive Housing

To be considered for this project, you’ll need to complete these steps in the following order:

1.      Ask your case manager at DDS (Department of Developmental Services) to refer you to PRAT (Programmatic Review Administrative Team) for Favarh Supportive Housing.

2.      Be selected by Favarh.

3.      Complete your rental application, return to Favarh, and Favarh will coordinate its submission for approval.

4.      Meet income qualifications for apartments and the Rental Assistance Package (RAP). RAP rates include earned and unearned income and will increase in 2024. Currently, the 2023 rates are:

• 1 BR, 30% AMI, (1 Person) $24,810
• 2 BR, 50% AMI, (2 People) $47,250 (in the aggregate, both incomes totaled together)
